Branding, Logo, Advertising, Motion Graphics, Art Direction
Now is as good a time as ever to make a green startup. I took a business idea of mine and turned it into a branding project. I created an animated explainer video, where I had the pleasure of directing a voice actor. In addition to the video, I designed branding pieces including business cards, a poster advertisement, and a truck wrap. Lastly, I designed a responsive website, writing copy, and working within a Bootstrap template to create a modern professional, yet energetic look that a startup should have to catch on.
Another must-do passion project every designer has are the “so famous I don’t know who originally said it” quote poster design. I was feeling a collage style. I made the paper airplane from images of Spanish newspapers and “folded” them up myself in Photoshop. I didn’t want to do a quote in English, so I picked my favorite Spanish one!
Please pardon the Saul Bass inspired design, I know there are plenty of them out in the world, but I had to try my hand at the style. Now I’m off the stuff for good—I promise! Anyways, I like the idea of infographics, so I am always excited for a new infographic project.
This is one of my favorite projects so far. I love motion graphics and hope to make many more. I made this when I was first teaching myself After Effects. Now, I am tackling more animation projects. Even a simple logo can become amazing with a bit of animation trickery.
Graphic Design for Social Media
I volunteered to design graphics to promote the super cool nonprofit, Kill The Cup, for their Earth Day Pledge campaign. The goal was to raise awareness on social media and to get clickthroughs to the website so that people can take the pledge and donate to the organization. I worked remotely with Drew Beal, the CEO (Chief Environmental Optimist), and we went through what he needed and the best layouts to solve the issue. It was awesome working with Kill The Cup and I’m looking forward to help out with the next project.
I made this as my first project using After Effects for a class. It is another promotion for a fictional company (which turns out to be a real brand) thought up by the professor. We had to incorporate certain buzzwords, just as if the project were handed to me by a creative director. From the premise of the project, I brainstormed types of animations that I knew I could learn quickly to make the due date, and storyboarded from there, eventually ending up with a finished animation. This was just a quick project meant for learning, but I think the result was pretty neat.
Graphic Design, Illustration
So before I purchased my last longboard skateboard, I was told by my friend that BC Longboards had an amazing deal where they would put on custom graphics for free with the purchase of one of their boards. I was in. The board has been treating me well, though I have put some unfortunate scratches over the artwork. Regardless, I’m always proud to showcase some of my artwork on my board. Funny story about the design- I made the sketch for it in math class (perks of not going to an art school).
These are graphics I used in front pages of various portfolio websites I’ve created.
User Interface Design
After hearing about efforts to implement rainwater collection systems, I was inspired to design a mobile app interface. An app like this would be great for spreading word about the idea of water conservation and I want to team up with people to make it happen.
I help spread good ideas. I can turn statistics into an infographic, make a story into an animated explainer video, or design a modern website so yours won’t remind you of that sound your old dial-up connection made.
My dream is to work with nonprofits, NGOs, and businesses that make the world a better place. For now, they can have the hard part of creating the good idea; I can help them refine it and design it to catch on.
Here is my modest résumé/curriculum vitae.
